Professional driver service in Concarneau, famous for its Vauban-fortified Walled Town and industrial fishing port, third French port by tonnage. Filets Bleus Festival in August.
Concarneau, third French fishing port by tonnage and one of Europe's leading tuna ports, has 19,000 inhabitants and is a major centre of Breton maritime culture. The Walled Town, a fortified citadel built on a rocky islet and connected to the mainland by a bridge, preserves the ramparts designed by Vauban in the 17th century. This granite enclosure, ranked among the most beautiful French military monuments, today houses a maze of cobbled streets, craft shops, seafood restaurants and the Fishing Museum. The fishing port, distinct from the Walled Town but visible from its ramparts, hosts a fleet of oceanic tuna purse seiners operating in the tropical Atlantic and Indian Ocean. This fleet, one of the largest in Europe, catches skipjack, yellowfin and bigeye tuna for Saupiquet group canneries and for export. The Concarneau auction, modernised in 2014, processes hundreds of tonnes of seafood daily. The city also hosts the National Maritime School (ENSM) Concarneau site, which trains merchant marine officers, and the Marinarium, marine station of the National Museum of Natural History. The Filets Bleus Festival, created in 1905 to support fishermen's families in difficulty, takes place each mid-August and is one of the oldest festivals in Brittany. The event gathers 100,000 visitors around traditional music and dance shows, embroidered costume demonstrations, bagadoù parades and concerts by Breton and international artists. Beyond Concarneau, our driver service covers the entire south coast of Finistère, from Pont-Aven 13 kilometres away to Lorient 50 kilometres away.
The Walled Town can be visited freely through its main gate (Porte de Ville) accessible from place Jean Jaurès. The rampart tour is open to the public from April to late September for a modest entrance fee, offering panoramic views of the fishing port, harbour and coast. The Fishing Museum, located within the enclosure, offers in-depth visits of fishing history. Our driver service drops visitors at the place Jean Jaurès car park 2 minutes walk from the Walled Town.
Brest-Bretagne airport (BES) is 95 kilometres north of Concarneau, about 1 hour drive via the N165. For international travellers arriving at BES wishing to reach Concarneau, we offer direct transfers with arrivals area greeting. An alternative is to use Lorient Bretagne Sud airport (LRT) 50 kilometres away, particularly for domestic flights to Lyon, Marseille or Toulouse.
The Filets Bleus Festival takes place the third weekend of August since 1905, making it one of Brittany's oldest festivals. The event gathers 100,000 visitors over four days around the great Sunday parade (procession of 3,500 participants in traditional costumes), concerts at several city sites, Breton dance shows and fest-noz. Our service offers transfers from BES, Quimper, Lorient or peripheral hotels with drop-off in dedicated pickup zones.
Beyond urban rides, FJ13 offers a complete range of B2B and event services.
