BSL for Basel (used by Swiss carriers and most Basel bookings), MLH for Mulhouse (used by French carriers and French-side bookings), EAP as a neutral global denomination. The same airport infrastructure accepts all three codes in the worldwide reservation systems Amadeus, Sabre and Travelport.

This triple coding reflects the airport's singularity: located on French soil in Saint-Louis (Haut-Rhin), it belongs to France but its governance and traffic are essentially Swiss from Basel. A 1949 France-Switzerland convention codifies this shared management. In practice, the commercial terminal handles both customs entries and operators navigate one side or the other depending on direction of travel.

The exit choice depends on the final destination. For Mulhouse, Colmar, Strasbourg, Belfort or Freiburg, FJ13 uses the French exit (towards Saint-Louis, A35 link), with no customs as it remains French territory. For Basel (Munsterplatz, Roche, Novartis, Schweizerhof or Trois Rois hotels), Zurich, Bern or Lucerne, FJ13 uses the Swiss exit via the dedicated customs motorway, with systematic Swiss customs control (Switzerland is outside the EU).

FJ13 fits its vehicles with the annual Swiss motorway vignette (CHF 40 a year, valid for the calendar year). Drivers know the usual customs procedures (passenger transport declaration, no commercial declaration in transit, no Swiss VAT to settle in transit). For clients travelling with equipment or samples (pharma visits, art transport), a prior declaration may be required: FJ13 directs clients to the customs services.

Basel is the world's leading hub for pharma and biotech. Roche (historic HQ at Grenzacherstrasse, Roche Tower 1 inaugurated in 2015, Roche Tower 2 in 2022), Novartis (Saint-Jean Campus, major urban transformation since 2001), Lonza, Syngenta (Schwarzwaldallee), Actelion-Idorsia (Allschwil), Bachem, Polyphor, and dozens of life sciences SMEs form an ecosystem representing 40% of Basel's GVA.

FJ13 serves these sites in 15 to 25 minutes from BSL via the Swiss exit. Drivers assigned to the pharma cluster are accustomed to corporate protocols: name-board greeting in the arrivals lounge, discretion, a welcome suited to business travel. The fixed rate includes on-site waiting if the client has a short meeting (1 to 2 hours) before returning to BSL.

Basel hosts several major trade events that create peaks in chauffeur demand from BSL. Art Basel in June attracts about 80,000 visitors to the Messe Basel: international collectors, gallery owners, curators and art press. The biennial Swissbau in January (odd-numbered years) draws 100,000 visitors around building and construction. The biennial Holz and Igeho complete the B2B calendar.

During these weeks, Basel hotels are full: visitors move to Mulhouse, Colmar and Saint-Louis. Option 1: transfer from BSL to Zurich Airport in 1 hour via the A2, with a Swiss connection to the Star Alliance long-haul hubs (Newark, Chicago, San Francisco, Tokyo, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Sao Paulo, Johannesburg). Swiss vignette included, with possible waiting in Zurich for a same-day return.

Option 2: transfer to Frankfurt FRA in 2h15 via the A35 and A5, the Lufthansa hub with more than 300 direct long-haul destinations. This is the preferred solution when the balance of journey time and Star Alliance schedules is more favourable. FJ13 advises the best option when quoting, depending on the target flight.

Two options exist to reach Basel-Mulhouse Airport: the taxi and the chauffeur service. A taxi runs on the meter, is picked up at a rank or hailed, and charges according to actual traffic. The chauffeur service is booked in advance: the rate is fixed, known and confirmed at booking, with no variation due to congestion or terminal waiting.
